Red Sox shutdown Corey Kluber after rehab outing
The Red Sox will be without Corey Kluber a little longer, after the right-hander was shutdown following his latest rehab outing with the WooSox.
Kluber made a rehab appearance for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, tossing two innings while allowing three earned runs off three hits, including a home run.
"He was throwing the ball well; he just wasn't able to recover the way he wanted", said Alex Cora.
The former two-time CY Young award winner didn’t feel good following his outing and the Sox will shut him down for the time being.
Kluber landed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation back in June.
It’s unknown how long Kluber will be out of action. The Red Sox could transition Kluber to the 60-day IL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster.
The veteran righty has really struggled in his first season with the Red Sox. He’s gone 3-6 with a 7.04 ERA, only reaching six innings once this year.
Kluber’s contract has an $11 million club option for next season, which is likely to be declined. He’ll likely return to free agency during the upcoming offseason.
