Red Sox reportedly designate Jeurys Familia for assignment
The Red Sox reportedly designated right-handed reliever Jeurys Familia for assignment, the reliever told MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Familia struggled during his short time with Boston.
Over the last month with the Red Sox, Familia posted a 6.10 ERA in 10 1/3 innings of work. The veteran reliever also walked seven batters, allowed seven earned runs in 10 games.
Familia was hit hard by the Yankees at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. The 32-year-old Dominican allowed three runs, two of them earned while walking three batters. The three runs given up gave the Yankees the lead in the top of tenth.
During his career, he has pitched with the Mets, Athletics and Phillies. The right-handed hurler posted a career 3.46 ERA with 125 saves in 532 2/3 innings pitched before coming to the Red Sox.
