Red Sox remain connected to free agent Chris Taylor
The versatile Dodgers free agent has many suitors including Boston
The Red Sox have been heavily connected to free agent utility man Chris Taylor. The versatile Dodgers free agent was connected to the Sox by MLB.com writer Juan Toribio.
Jon Heyman of MLB Network and Audacy tweeted Boston remains connected to Taylor.
“Baez should get at least $160M, probably more, Taylor may be the best fit for Boston, so I’m looking at maybe Taylor to the Red Sox and the Cubs and Mets more likely for Baez,” Heyman said on MLB Network on Friday afternoon.
The 31-year-old was an All-Star in 2021, he hit .254 with 20 home runs, 73 RBIs in 148 games. Taylor provided positional flexibility for the Dodgers appearing at six different positions. He played 62 games in center field, 46 games at second base in addition to the other four positions.
Taylor could provide a stop gap at second base for the Red Sox. Last season Boston utilized Kiké Hernandez, Christian Arroyo and others at second base. Taylor could provide a short-term stopgap until Jeter Downs or Nick Yorke could be ready.
If Boston signs Taylor, it would cost them a draft pick in the process. Boston received an additional draft pick from the Tigers after Eduardo Rodriguez signed with Detroit.
The Red Sox will have some competition for Taylor as the Cardinals, Rangers, Giants, Marlins, Mariners and Dodgers are all interested in the veteran.
