Red Sox recall Enmanuel Valdez from the WooSox
The Red Sox have recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.
The move is necessary after shortstop Yu Chang left Tuesday night’s start against the Orioles with a wrist injury.
While batting in the top seventh inning, Chang swung hard during an at-bat. Following the swing he grimaced and grabbed his left wrist.
The team called the injury “left wrist pain.” Chang was replaced by Christian Arroyo for the remainder of the game.
There is some speculation and concern Chang’s injury is in the area of the hamate bone, a hook-line structure between the hand and the wrist.
“He’s in pain. He’s going to get tested tomorrow,” Cora said. “We’ll see where we’re at. Right now, it’s sore. That’s all we can say right now.”
Cora told reporters he expects the Red Sox to call someone up prior to the game two of the series.
This is Valdez’s second stint with the Red Sox this season. He went 2-for-4 out of the No. 9 spot during his major league debut.
With the addition of Valdez to the lineup, it gives the Red Sox another infield option as they figure out what’s next with the roster.
