Red Sox provide no timetable on when Adalberto Mondesí will return
Red Sox infielder Adalberto Mondesí is still recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee and is likely to start the season on the injured list.
Manager Alex Cora told The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham that there is still no timetable for Mondesí coming back. The versatile infielder is only doing rehab work and is only doing limited baseball activities. Mondesí completed sprints with cones on Thursday at the start of the days workouts.
When speaking with Bloom on Friday, he echoed the same sentiment, telling Beyond the Monster that Mondesí will start the season somewhere and it’s likely not going to be with the major league club.
Alex Cora: Aldaberto Mondesí is ‘Xander-esque’ in size and strength
Bloom has been consistent with this message on Mondesí all week. On Tuesday Bloom told the media he’s not betting on the Calif. native to be ready for Opening Day.
“There’s still a chance... That’s not something I would bet on,” Bloom said. “But that’s no different from when acquired him. We said there was a possibility. On one hand, he’s such a good athlete that you don’t want to put anything past him in terms of once he really gets going and gets momentum, he could progress very quickly. On the other hand, because he’s such a dynamic athlete, we want to make sure he’s really ready so we and he can feel he’s in a position to just be fully unleashed when we do activate them.”
