Red Sox prospect Tyler Uberstine is making the most of his time in Triple-A
Over the last few years, Red Sox pitching prospects have seen their stock rise. That includes talented arms such as Connelly Early, Yordanny Monegro, Hunter Dobbins, Luis Perales, and David Sandlin. However, one prospect who has flown under the radar is Tyler Uberstine. The former 19th round is the only one call from the majors putting together a solid 2025 campaign in Triple-A.
After starting the season in Double-A, Uberstine was promoted to Worcester on May 15th. Since his promotion, the California native has been an arm WooSox manager Chad Tracy can rely on. In five games, Uberstine has posted a 2.67 ERA and struck out 29 batters. He has also done a great job limiting hard contact, allowing only three home runs.
During his time with the WooSox, Uberstine has also been able to limit baserunners. Opponents are only hitting .237 against the 26-year-old in 27 innings. Even when batters do reach base, Uberstine has worked out of trouble and pitched deep into games. That characteristic will help get the Northwestern College product to the majors sooner rather than later.
So far this season, Uberstine has pitched at least five innings in nine of his 11 starts. The last time he did not reach that mark was on April 10th. Regardless of who the opponents have been in Double or Triple-A, Uberstine has given his team a chance to win. If Uberstine can continue to do that, a call to the majors could come later this summer.Â
In Uberstine, the Red Sox have a prospect with a diverse pitch mix. His fastball tops out at 95 with an above-average spin rate. He also possesses a slider, a cutter, and a changeup to keep hitters off balance. His loaded arsenal has proven difficult for opponents to barrel up.Â
As the innings pile up, the former 19th-round pick is proving he does not have a lot left to prove in the minors. He has a 3.42 ERA through his first 40 professional outings and is getting better every time out. Although the season is far from over, Ubertsine's performance has been hard to ignore. With every start, he's making himself a legitimate option for the big league club.
