Red Sox prospect Nick Sogard drew comparisons to Dustin Pedroia on Tuesday night
Red Sox prospect Nick Sogard got the start at second base on Tuesday night against Miami. Little did Sogard know, he would be hearing a play he made in the field that would compared to a favorite player growing up.
“My dad is from Boston and grew up a big Red Sox fan so I watched a lot of Red Sox baseball growing up.” Sogard added “Pedey was always one of my favorite players”
The play happened in the bottom of the second inning with a runner on third and one out with the infield in. Red Sox announcer Dave O’Brien called it “Pedroia like” due to the quick feet shown on the play.
The play ultimately ended up saving a run in this situation. When I asked Sogard about what he’s working on the most this spring, it happened to be on the other side of the ball.
“I worked hard this off-season to improve on what I would call a poor offensive season last year.” Sogard said “I’m excited to get out and show what I can do.”
Sogard was acquired alongside Ronaldo Hernandez from the Rays in early 2021. He recieved a mid-season promotion to Worcester in 2022 after a solid first half in Portland. When asked about his goals for this year? A major league call-up was on his mind.
“I just want to stay present, be the best I can to help us win games.” Sogard said “Ultimately I want to do the same in Boston when that time comes.”
