Red Sox prospect Nathan Landry off to near perfect start for Salem
Red Sox pitching prospect Nathan Landry is the only player in the Red Sox system that speaks French as a first language. He is also one of very few that reside from Quebec, Canada.
Landry’s journey is an impressive one, and one that Beyond the Monster detailed a couple months back in an exclusive interview with Landry.
The former University of Missouri product has gotten off to a near perfect start for the Salem Red Sox as he enters his first full season in professional baseball. The 23-year-old has pitched in eight games and has yet to give up a run over 10.1 innings pitched. He has only given up six hits in those ten and a third innings of work. He has struck out 11 batters and only walked three.
Landry will never be the prospect that blows 100 MPH fastballs by you like we have grown so accustomed too. Instead, he beats opposing hitters with control. His fastball tops out at 93 MPH and has a very effective slider with a late break.
It should only be a matter of time before Landry gets the call to Greenville at this point. Greenville has struggled mightily to begin the season and are off to a 7-13 start. Adding a pitcher like Landry will help things out in the Greenville bullpen, especially given the fact that are zero left handed pitchers on the roster in High-A. Now that we are into May, the first round of call-ups around the minor league levels will start to take place.
