Red Sox prospect Kristian Campbell with impressive night, goes 4-for-4, homers in third straight game for Greenville
Red Sox infield prospect Kristian Campbell had a huge game on Thursday night where he went 4-for-4 with a homer, double, walk, two runs, and three RBIs in High-A Greenville’s 8-2 win over Asheville.
Campbell’s bat has been sizzling over the last week. The 21-year-old has hit home runs in each of the last three games, and he’s gone 7-for-12 (.583 AVG) over that stretch with 17 total bases.
The Red Sox drafted Campbell in the compensation fourth round, No. 132 overall, out of Georgia Tech in 2023. The 6-foot-3, 191-pound infielder offers elite contract rates and good speed, according to Baseball America.
“Campbell’s calling card is his elite contact rate. He posted a 90% overall contact rate this spring, with a tremendous in-zone contact rate of 94%. Campbell crowds the plate and hits against a slightly closed off-front side,” wrote Baseball America.
He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields and is starting to put the ball in the air more with a 25.7% fly ball percentage and a 25.7% line drive percentage.
If he continues to drive the ball into the air and hit to all fields with occasional power, Campbell will quickly rise as a top prospect within the Red Sox system.
“With the swing-decision ability that he already naturally has, on top of the ability to impact the baseball, we’re looking at a guy who could be really, really impactful and continue to get better,” Red Sox farm director Brian Abraham said to BA.
This season, Campbell has started seven games at second base, five games in center field, and three games at DH. After scuffling to open the season, the Tennessee native is now hitting .276 with 16 hits, four home runs, 12 RBI, one stolen base, and owns a .960 OPS.
