In a corresponding move to the big 3 being promoted, Jhostynxon Garcia and Allan Castro are being promoted to Double-A Portland. Garcia, a fast rising outfielder in the system this year, and Castro will both be apart of the Portland outfield mix.
Garcia spent just 24 games with Single-A Salem, slashing .258/.365/.517 with six doubles, five home runs, 19 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases. A strong showing in Salem, he was promoted to the High-A Greenville just before the end of May.
It was in Greenville that Garcia caught the eye of many, helping him shoot up prospect rankings. In the latest rankings update from soxprospects.com, he rose up to the 19th spot after beginning the year 49th. Slashing .311/.371/.627 with 14 doubles, 16 home runs, and 37 runs batted in, the 21-year-old has been one of the best hitters in High-A upon his arrival. Among hitters with at least 200 plate appearances, he has the third highest wRC+ (172).
Castro has spent the entire season in Greenville. A slightly slower start to the year, though as of recent has been on fire like his counterpart joining him. Since the calendar flipped to July 1st, Castro is slashing .306/.385/.685 with seven doubles and 10 home runs. Castro is ranked 12th in the system by Sox prospects.com.
Now the duo are on their way to a different level, Garcia’s third of the year and Castro’s second. The outfielders will join the team on the road in Binghamton.
