Red Sox prospect Enmanuel Valdez named International League Player of the Week
Red Sox prospect Enmanuel Valdez was named the International League Player of the Week for the week of August 29-September 4.
Valdez was sizzling hot at the plate during the WooSox series with the Buffalo Bisons from Polar Park. Over the six game series, Valdez went 10-for-24 (.417) with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBIs, eight runs scored, one stolen base, three walks.
The 23-year-old would pick up his 100th RBI of the season during the series. Following the game he spoke about the accomplishment through an interpreter.
“I’m very happy to get to 100 RBIs, thank god I was able to do that. Thats a goal that every hitter has and I’m very happy I was able to achieve it.”
Since joining the WooSox on Aug. 3, Valdez has batted .236, six doubles, one triple, seven homers, 27 RBIs, 22 runs scored, two stolen bases, 31 strikeouts and a 114 wRC+ in 28 games.
The Red Sox acquired Valdez along with Wilyer Abreu from the Astros for catcher Christian Vazquez. He is ranked as the Red Sox No. 16 prospect on Baseball America.
“Acquired from the Astros in the Christian Vazquez trade, Valdez has been one of the most productive hitters in the minor leagues this season. He's a bat-first infielder with a good combination of power and contact but major defensive questions. He's almost a major league ready hitter who needs to be added to the 40-man roster this winter,” per Baseball America.
