Red Sox prospect Brayan Bello tosses a seven-inning no-hitter for the Portland Sea Dogs
Red Sox prospect Brayan Bello threw a seven-inning no hitter for the Double-A Sea Dogs on Thursday. The no-hitter came during the nightcap of the a doubleheader against the Reading Fightin’ Phils.
Bello was brillant throwing 96 pitches, 56 of them for strikes. The right-handed hurler only allowed an unearned run while walking three and striking out five batters.
The Sea Dogs won the game 3-1 and swept the day-night doubleheader.
Bello fired his fastball with ease, zipping it in the strike zone at 96-98 miles per hour.
Through five starts this season, the 22-year-old owns a 3-2 record with a 1.95 ERA, 37 strikeouts and 11 walks. Opposing hitters have struggled to make contact off Bello this season. He’s held them to a .135/.224/.260 slash line.
Bello is ranked No. 97 on Baseball America’s most recent Top 100 list. BA ranks him Boston’s top pitching prospect and No. 5 prospect overall.
The future is bright for Bello and he will provide the Red Sox another option for their rotation in the future. Bello could be a candidate for a promotion to Triple-A Worcester in the near future.
