The Red Sox made two roster moves prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Astros from Fenway Park. Boston has recalled left-handed reliever Joe Jacques, per Beyond the Monster’s Andrew Parker.
The Red Sox optioned reliever Kyle Barraclough to the WooSox after the Astros walloped him for 10 runs on 11 hits, six walks and three hit batsmen in 4 1/3 innings on Monday.
Jacques returns to the Sox where he has posted a 5.85 ERA in 17 outings. He has 14 strikeouts and five walks in 20 innings. The southpaw has pitched to a 2.83 ERA in 35 innings for the WooSox.
Barraclough pitched the entire game after starter Chris Sale was removed from the game. With the Red Sox bullpen overworked, Alex Cora needed to keep Barraclough out there for the whole game to reset his bullpen.
“I feel awful,” said Cora following the game. “I feel bad. It happened to (the Astros) last week. They brought up a guy who threw 100 pitches and saved their bullpen. He wanted to go out in the ninth. We were thinking about actually sending out a position player, but he was like, ‘You know what? I’ll take this one. I’l finish this one.’”
Barraclough has been solid for the WooSox this season, he owns a 2.43 ERA in 10 outings (nine starts).
Chad Tracy spoke highly of the veteran righty on Tuesday prior to the WooSox series opener at Polar Park.
“He’s been great,” said Tracy. “I think it speaks a lot to the fact he’s in building today. A lot of these guys that get sent down have the opportunity to take a couple of days if they want. He was one of the first guys here.
“What I know about Claw is he’s ready to get back to work, rough one obviously. It doesn’t take away with how we feel and how much he’s meant to our club. He looks mentally ready to go and hopefully we get him back out there.”

Chris,
What happened to BearClaw I thought according to the TampaTool he just knew that the Sox were going to be sooo much better with him on the big club. I guess he was mistaken about that, again he has no clue what a MLB Player or Pitcher looks like, acts like and more importantly can he pitch, hit, run or throw like a Major Leaguer. It’s time for the Fenway Park crowd to start the Duquette Chant for Chaim. Chaim Sux, Chaim Sux, Chaim Sux...
