Red Sox players react to Netflix docuseries news
The whole world will get to see behind the scenes the Red Sox 2024 season when Netflix drops it’s first ever look into an all-access docuseries that will drop in Spring Training in 2025.
A lot of opinions poured in on social media by Red Sox fans which were for the most part negative. Tons of questions were thrown out there regarding why this year of all years. Why this year after not spending money in the offseason and not addressing needs on the roster. Why this year after coming off back-to-back last place finishes in the division. All valid questions to be asked by fans.
However, the reaction from the players has been very positive.
“I think it’s awesome to give the fans a perspective into our day-to-day lives,” an unnamed Red Sox player said. “The ups and downs, how the families handle it, and really everything. I think it’s going to be big for the game, and a chance to help grow it.”
It might help paint these guys in a more relatable manner, as each and every guy faces challenges just like you and me. They go through things behind the scenes that most fans don’t ever get to see.
The player also added that the Red Sox held a meeting regarding the announcement and they “will have the ability to say yes or no to anything” regarding being filmed. He also noted that overall, everyone is pretty excited about.
When I spoke to another Red Sox player currently on the 40-man roster, he had the same positive attitude about it.
“Going to be interesting, but think good things can come of it,” another player mentioned about the docuseries. “My haircut bill just went up though. Going to have to have a fresh cut every week.”
After seeing how successful the “Full Swing” docuseries was for the PGA Tour, this was a no brainer for the MLB to try to jump in on that bandwagon. With Fenway Sports Group now on board on being a big investor in golf, this seemed like it would be a fit one way or another.
