Red Sox outfielder Jaylin Davis has elected free agency
Davis played in 12 games for the Boston Red Sox this past season
Jaylin Davis has elected free agency and will hit the open market for the first time in his Major League Baseball career. The move was announced by the MiLB transactions log.
The Red Sox claimed Davis off waivers from the San Francisco Giants earlier in the regular season.
While with the Worcester Red Sox, Davis provided depth at the upper level of the organization’s system.
Davis spent the majority of his time with Triple-A Worcester, hitting .203 with seven homers, knocked in 24 RBIs and had a .646 OPS. The 5-foot-11 outfielder appeared in 12 games for the Red Sox.
In those 12 games, Davis posted a .333 batting average with a slash line of .407/.375/.783 with eight hits, one double and two RBIs. The outfielder had 11 strikeouts while with the big league club. A high strikeout percentage has plagued Davis over the course of his pro career.
Davis’ defense provided a boost to the Red Sox. On Aug. 6th, he denied the Royals Michael Taylor of extra bases making a full extension diving catch.
The 2015 draftee will hook on with another organization this winter and provide depth at the upper levels of their system. If the Greensboro native can cut down on his strikeout issues, he could be a productive fourth outfielder for a club next season.
