The Red Sox have optioned left-handed reliever Ryan Sherriff to Triple-A Worcester following Wednesday night’s 12-3 win over the Mariners.
The move was first announced by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Boston will activate right-handed reliever Kutter Crawford off the injured list to replace Sherriff on the 26-man roster.
The 32–year-old pitched a scoreless eighth inning in the game win, allowing one hit and issuing one walk.
The southpaw appeared in two games while with the Red Sox. Both games he pitched in were against the Mariners. During his brief stint with Boston, Sherriff tossed two innings, giving up one hit, struck out one batter and walked one.
Sherriff signed with the Red Sox on January 21 and was invited to spring training. He was optioned to Triple-A Worcester to begin the season.
Prior to his promotion to the Red Sox, the lefty appeared in 15 games for the WooSox. He posted a 2-1 record with a 3.00 ERA, 16 strike outs, eight walks and a 1.33 WHIP.
In 46 career Major League games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2017-18), Tampa Bay Rays (2020-21), and Boston Red Sox (2023), Sherriff owns a 3.50 ERA, giving up 18 ER over 46 1/3 innings pitched.

In the photo, he's looking at the ball coming out of his hand instead of the target, which is always the catchers mitt! I've never seen a pitcher who didn't focus on where he was aiming to throw the ball...Mind-boggling!
