Red Sox option Kaleb Ort to Triple-A Worcester, reinstate Chris Martin from injured list
The Red Sox made two roster moves on Sunday afternoon. The club optioned right-handed reliever Kaleb Ort to Triple-A Worcester, while reinstating right-hander Chris Martin from the injured list.
The moves were initially reported by Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe.
Martin was initially placed on the injured list on April 16 (retroactive to April 13) with right shoulder inflammation. The 36-year-old made a rehab appearance for the WooSox on Friday night.
He pitched during the sixth inning and allowed two hits and two unearned runs.
Prior to landing on the injured list, Martin allowed two runs in 7.0 innings pitched across seven outings with the Red Sox this season.
Ort was the odd man out and was optioned to Worcester. He posted a 7.30 ERA (10 ER/12 1/3 IP) in 12 outings this season after making his first career Opening Day roster.
Opponents are batting .308 against him.
Ort allowed five runs (four earned runs) while recording just one out in the ninth inning Tuesday as Boston’s lead vs. the Orioles in Baltimore was cut from 8-1 to 8-6.
The right-handers inability to pitch in low leverage situations resulted in Alex Cora having to use closer Kenley Jansen.
