Red Sox non-tender Franchy Cordero and Yu Chang

Waivers: Red Sox lose reliever Jake Reed to the Dodgers
According to MLB Trade Rumors, Cordero was projected to earn $1.5 million in his second year of arbitration. While Cordero will get the opportunity to test the open market, there’s speculation that he could return to Boston on a new minor-league deal.
The Red Sox attempted to keep Cordero in the fold by offering him a minor-league deal earlier in the week.
The Dominican native came to the Red Sox as one of five players acquired for outfielder Andrew Benintendi.
During his two seasons in Boston, Cordero hit .209 with 77 hits, 23 doubles, one triple, nine homers, 38 RBIs with a .629 OPS. Cordero struggled to find consistency at the plate during his tenure with the organization.
He will always be linked as one of the key players in the Benintendi trade but also for his walk-off grand slam against the Mariners this past season.
Chang was acquired off waivers by the Red Sox from the Rays on Sept. 12. He only played in 11 games hitting .150 with one RBI. In 196 games in his career, Chang has posted a .213 average with 14 homers and 61 RBIs.
