FCL and DSL start off their seasons. Ceddanne Rafaela gets the call to Double-A. Connor Seabold throwing live BP; off of IL. Jarren Duran back to Triple-A.
It was a busy last week or so for the Red Sox minors and all the details for your morning cup of coffee are below.
Duran called up; sent back down
Duran was called up due to Jackie Bradley Jr. being on paternity leave while in Oakland. Quickly after Bradley Jr. and his wife, Erin, welcomed the birth of their third child, Elle, at their home in Naples, Fla., Bradley Jr. returned to the team prior to the Red Sox facing the Angels in Anaheim, sending Duran back to Worcester.
From Brendan Campbell of Blogging the Red Sox: Duran appeared in two games and went 3-for-9 at the plate with one run scored and four strikeouts. Duran is slashing .314/.393/.523 with 12 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 22 RBI, 31 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, 19 walks, and 42 strikeouts over 37 games with 173 trips to the plate.
Red Sox call up Ceddanne Rafaela
Rafaela, who is listed on MLB Pipeline as the Red Sox 27th ranked prospect earned the call up to Double-A after having a stellar season with High-A Greenville.
The prospect was in the lineup for Portland on Tuesday, but it didn’t go as planned. The highly-touted prospect went 0-for-4. The Sea Dogs lost, 5-3.
Connor Seabold making comeback
The 14th ranked prospect in the Red Sox system threw live BP last week. A couple of days ago it was reported by Sox Prospects’ Chris Hatfield that the WooSox would be activating the righty off of the IL and he would likely be making his first start on Thursday, June 9, since being scratched from his routinely scheduled start on May 20.
