When the Boston Red Sox and Masataka Yoshida reached an agreement on a five-year, $90 million contract one thing was known — Yoshida will bring flare at the plate and emery in the field — something the Red Sox need.
One thing that really stood out to Red Sox Nation was the fact at how honest Yoshida was in introductory presser back in December.
“I have played for the Orix Buffaloes for seven years. I don’t speak English. [I’m] so nervous. I want to learn English, and I want to speak it. I’m honored to be with Red Sox Nation. I’ll do my best. Thank you,” he said.
Yoshida made it clear why he chose Boston over the other MLB teams by saying “the Red Sox organization is the best of all 30 teams.”
Due to the World Baseball Classic being played, Yoshida only has appeared in five spring games where he owns a .200 batting average.
On Monday night, Yoshida impressed with his best performance going 3-4, HR, 3 RBI, BB and a run scored as Team Japan walked off Team Mexico to face Team USA in the World Baseball Classic Championship.
Yoshida leads the WBC in RBI with 13 and has two homers in the tournament.
The game between Team USA and Team Japan will be on FS1 with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 pm.
