Red Sox make roster moves prior to game on Marathon Monday
The Red Sox made a series of roster moves on Monday morning. Boston optioned infielder Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester, while announcing the team has recalled outfielder Jarren Duran.
In addition, the club moved righty Brayan Bello off the 15-day injured list. To make room for Bello, veteran right-hander Jake Faria was designated for assignment.
Bello made his first start of the season against the Angels on Marathon Monday. The young righty struck out the first batter of the game but struggled thereafter.
The 23-year-old went 2 2/3 innings giving up eight hits, five earned runs, walked one including hitting a batter and struck out five batters.
Faria spent one day on the big league roster following the Red Sox selecting his contract from the WooSox. The Red Sox will have the next seven days to either trade, release, or waive the 29-year-old righty.
If he goes unclaimed and clears waivers, Faria will either report back to Triple-A Worcester or he can refuse an outright assignment to the minor-leagues and elect free agency since he has previously been outrighted.
Dalbec was called up after the Red Sox placed outfielder Adam Duvall on the injured list with a left wrist fracture.
The 27-year-old went 2-for-9 (.222) at the plate with one stolen base, two walks, and five strikeouts. He also saw playing time at first base, third base, and shortstop, all three positions he also played with the WooSox.
Duran will offer the Red Sox additional speed in the lineup and will play center field. This will allow them to play Kiké Hernández at shortstop and second base, according to manager Alex Cora.
Duran has played 11 games with the WooSox this season. The 26-year-old batted .195/.353/.439 with two doubles, one triple, two home runs, six RBIs, eight runs scored, two stolen bases, 10 walks, and 11 strikeouts across 51 plate appearances.
