Red Sox lefty James Paxton makes second rehab appearance, hits 95 mph in outing
Red Sox left-hander James Paxton made his second rehab start on Tuesday down in Fort Myers, pitching three innings.
“Really good,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters, including MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “Good velo. Up to 95 (mph). He’ll stay there the rest of the week. And then we’ll see where he pitches the next one. But I texted with him earlier. He feels good about it, about everything. Still a little bit off mechanically. But getting closer.”
Paxton suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain during a start in spring training against the Twins. The lefty was removed after 1 2/3 innings of work after grabbing at his right leg and attempting to stretch it out.
It is expected that Paxton will need roughly two or three starts before being activated by the club.
The left-handed hurler has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery. The 34-year-old has made six starts since the 2020 season, without any set backs, he should impact the Red Sox rotation in the near future.
