Red Sox left-handed pitching prospect Shane Drohan tosses 5 scoreless frames, earns win
Red Sox left-handed pitching prospect Shane Drohan made his season debut on the mound for the Portland Sea Dogs. Drohan was sharp against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, tossing five scoreless innings.
The 24-year-old allowed just three hits and one walk while punching out five batters during his outing.
Drohan was effective to begin the game retiring the first four batters he faced before giving up his first hit of the game to Luke Ritter.
The southpaw ran into some trouble in the fifth inning, he would issue a leadoff walk to Ritter and then allowed another runner to reach. With runners on first and second and only one out in the inning, Drohan settled down.
He would strikeout two consecutive hitters and got Mateo Gil to pop out to get out of the jam.
Drohan threw 69 pitches, 46 of them for strikes over the five innings of work. The Sea Dogs won the game 2-0 and are also now 2-0 on the young season.
Boston selected Drohan in the fifth round back in the 2020 MLB Draft out of Florida State. Entering this season, Drohan has jumped up with SoxProspects.com as their No. 12 ranked prospect in the system.
