The GM Meetings are underway in Las Vegas and there has been Red Sox news trickling out. On Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive reported that the Red Sox have expressed interest in left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney.
The 31-year-old spent last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching in 16 games and starting 14 of them.
Heaney went 4-4 with a 3.10 ERA, surrendering 14 homers, 60 hits allowed, 110 strikeouts and a 1.087 WHIP in 72 2/3 innings pitched.
The southpaw had a great first year in Los Angeles after a down 2021 where he spent time with the Angels and Yankees. That season he posted a 5.83 ERA and surrendered a career high 29 home runs.
Heaney relies on three pitches, a four-seam fastballl, changeup and slider. That slider is a pitch he re-introduced to his pitching arsenal. He threw the slider 32.4% of the time and opponents only mustered a .170 batting average.
The nine year veteran who has been involved in three trades, eight trips to the injured list, one Tommy John surgery will hit the open market. Boston showed interest in Heaney last offseason, he however opted to sign one-year, $8 million deal in Los Angeles.

The Red Sox are looking to add more depth to their rotation and Heaney.
Can Heaney replace veteran Rich Hill at the back of the rotation?
As of right now, the Red Sox have Chris Sale, Nick Pivetta, James Paxton, Brayan Bello and Garrett Whitlock as rotation options in 2023. It remains to be seen if the club will bring back free agents Nathan Eovaldi, Michael Wacha or Hill.
