Red Sox Hot Stove: Rangers outfielder Adolis García a trade option to help solve the lineups power woes?
The Red Sox had a massive power outage this past season. Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom will need to address adding some power bats to the lineup in 2023.
Last season, the Red Sox clubbed 155 homers, which was down from 2021 where the team hit 219 homers.
With Xander Bogaerts all but opting out of his contract after the World Series and J.D. Martinez a free agent, there is a need for more power in the lineup.
One player that could help bring some much needed power to the Red Sox lineup is current Rangers outfielder Adolis García.
García has two years of control left on his contract and has hit 58 homers over the last two seasons. The 29-year-old could be a fit in right field and his power numbers could replace J.D. Martinez.
García knocked in 100 RBIs last season and had an .756 OPS.
Adding García to the Red Sox lineup instantly gives them a replacement for Martinez. The Cuban’s bat wouldn’t be enough for the Red Sox to help with their power woes.
García who will turn 30 next March has played centerfield and right field for the Rangers.

Texas doesn’t have to trade García and appear to want to add to their big league roster. One reason the Rangers could move García this winter is their abundance of outfielders.
Josh Jung is expected to the teams third baseman. That would allow the club to move infielder Ezequiel Duran to the outfield. In addition, the Rangers have Josh Smith who’s an infielder by trade but has played left field as well.
These two younger and cheaper players could make García expendable.
Boston could offer the Rangers young pitching back in a trade. Could a deal that includes right-handers Connor Seabold, Jedixson Paez and outfielder Wilyer Abreu be appetizing enough for the Rangers to bite?
Seabold has pitched at the major league level, albeit in a small sample size. He’s made six starts all with Boston and owns a 0-4 record with a 10.55 ERA. Despite his poor stats, Seabold offers a four-pitch mix, his fastball tops out at 95 mph, his changeup can be deceptive, curveball is a change of pace pitch and his slider is average at best.
He profiles more as a backend starter or potential swing man. The 26-year-old still has two minor league options available.

Paez is only 18, has a three-pitch mix and profiles as a back-end starter. The three-quarter slot righty, offers a fastball, curveball and changeup. It’s still too early to project ultimately what Paez could become on the mound.
Lastly, Abreu came over in the Christian Vazquez trade in August. He’s an intriguing outfield prospect that has shown some power. If that power continues to develop, he could be a useful piece at the major league level.
It’s unclear as to what the Rangers will do this winter, they spent on Corey Seager and Marcus Seimen last offseason. If García could put together a similar 2022 campaign minus the slump he fell into during the middle of the season, the Rangers slugger could be an under-the-radar trade option.
