Red Sox have made Bobby Dalbec available in trade talks
Bobby Dalbec might be getting a fresh start in 2023 and that fresh start will likely not be with the Red Sox. After coming off a difficult 2022 season, the Red Sox have told teams Dalbec is available for a potential trade, per Boston Sports Journal’s Sean McAdam.
“Not surprisingly, the Red Sox have told teams that Bobby Dalbec is available. Tampa Bay is one team which has expressed some interest,” tweeted McAdam on Monday night.
Last season, Dalbec struggled hitting 215/.283/.369 with 12 home runs, 39 RBIS and a .652 OPS. Dalbec also struck out 118 times in 317 at-bats (33.4% strikeout rate).

The 27-year-old was once a former top-100 prospect who burst onto the scene in 2020. That season, he hit eight homers in 23 games with an impressive 151 wRC+ but he also struck out 42.2% of the time.
Dalbec is expendable as the Red Sox will move forward with both Triston Casas and Eric Hosmer at first base.

The Rays have reportedly expressed interest in Dalbec. Tampa Bay has a need for some power potential in their lineup. The Rays are also looking for upgrades at first base after trading Ji-Man Choi to the Pirates.
The Washington State native is one year away from being arbitration eligible, which could make him attractive to a small market team like the Rays.
