Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas weighs in on the club’s moves at the trade deadline
Prior to Triston Casas’ first rehab game on Tuesday, the slugger met with the WooSox media in the dugout. During his media scrum, Casas was asked to give his thoughts on what the Red Sox front office did at the trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon.
“We’ve made a couple of great moves,” Casas told reporters, including Beyond the Monster. “I’m sad to see Yorke go. He was one of my closer friends, but I’m happy to see Quinn in our locker room right now. I know he’s a really young prospect. He’s going to do a lot of great things. I know he’s already had time at the major league level, so I’m excited to see what he has. Getting to see Danny Jansen the other day, getting to meet him, but then again, sad to see Reese (McGuire) go. It’s a whirlwind of emotions, for sure. Glad to see Paxton back.”
Boston made a handful of moves ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring James Paxton from the Dodgers, Danny Jansen from the Blue Jays, Quinn Priester from the Pirates, Lucas Sims from the Reds, and Luis Garcia from the Angels.
Paxton made his 2024 Red Sox debut on Tuesday night and took the loss, tossing 4 1/3 innings and giving up six runs; three of them earned off six hits with one walk and five strikeouts. His defense behind him didn’t help his cause, giving up two errors in the fifth inning and three total on the night.
Jansen collected three hits in his team debut on Sunday, while Priester joined the WooSox on Tuesday afternoon. Both Sims and Garcia have not yet joined the Red Sox but are expected to in the next day or so.
“I’m hoping these guys can make a good impact,” Casas said. “And I’m hoping to come back as well as another acquisition in the near future.”
