Red Sox designate RHP Tayler Scott for assignment, recall WooSox pitcher for series finale
The Red Sox designated right-handed reliever Tayler Scott for assignment, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith.
The club will select WooSox righty Jake Faria on to the 40-man roster. Faria is expected to be with the team in Chicago for the series finale against the Cubs.
Scott struggled since joining the Red Sox back on June 22 from the Dodgers. Alex Cora had Scott pitch the ninth inning on Friday night with a five run lead. He allowed three base runners (a walk and two singles), forcing Cora to use All-Star closer Kenley Jansen.
During Saturday afternoon’s game, Scott came out of the bullpen in relief of James Paxton. His struggles continued allowing a two-run homer to Patrick Wisdom before recording an out.
Overall, Scott has allowed three runs, two earned, six hits, one hit batter and four walks with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. He made four appearances which includes one start as an opener agains the A’s before the All-Star break.
Faria has spent the entire season with the WooSox, with the exception of one game he was with Boston (he did not pitch). The 29-year-old has posted a 6.47 ERA in 19 outings Triple-A Worcester this season. He has struggled with his command, walking 35 batters, he has struck out 46 in 55 2/3 innings.
Faria owns a career 4.70 ERA in 72 big league games (29 starts). He last pitched in the majors for the Diamondbacks in 2021. The veteran came up with the Rays (2017-2019) and Brewers (2019).
