Red Sox designate left-hander Austin Davis for assignment
The Red Sox will designate left-hander Austin Davis for assignment following the loss to the Rays on Sunday. The news was first reported by The Athletics Chad Jennings.
Davis struggled out of the bullpen against the Rays. He went two innings, giving up three hits, four runs, two of them earned, walking one batter and struck out one.
The left-handed hurler started out the season as a key piece to Alex Cora’s pitching staff. Davis had performed as both an opener and pitched in relief.
Since July 8th, Davis has been atrocious posting a 10.71 ERA.
If Davis clears waivers he will likely be assigned to Triple-A Worcester.
