Red Sox designate Connor Seabold for assignment, Corey Kluber deal is official
The Red Sox announced on Thursday that right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold was designated for assignment. The move allowed the club to make the Corey Kluber signing official, he will be added to the 40-man roster.
Boston will now have seven days to trade, release or waiver the 26-year-old.
Seabold was originally acquired along with Nick Pivetta from the Phillies back in 2020 for Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree.
The Laguna Hills, California native came to the Red Sox as a mid-tier pitching prospect. However, his success in the minors has not translated at the big league level.
Over the last two seasons, Seabold made six starts and owns a 10.55 ERA while allowing 25 earned runs in 21 1/3 innings. While pitching with Triple-A Worcester the last two seasons, he posted a 3.50 ERA in 2021 and a 3.32 ERA in 2022.
Injuries have been an issue for Seabold the last couple of seasons, he dealt with a right forearm extensor strain last season.
Red Sox add to the rotation with the signing of Corey Kluber
Kluber agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with the Red Sox in December. He can earn $27 million over two years of the deal if he hits the bonuses included.
