Red Sox call up outfielder Abraham Almonte from Triple-A Worcester
The Boston Red Sox are going to select outfielder Abraham Almonte from Triple-A Worcester, per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.
In order to facilitate the move, the Red Sox will need to make a 40-man roster decision. One player who could help clear a 40-man roster spot would be injured outfielder Franchy Cordero.
The 28-year-old outfielder was hurt in playing left field trying to make a play on the ball near the wall. It appeared that Cordero got his spikes caught in the wall resulting in the injury.
Boston could move Cordero to the 60-day injured list making it easier for Almonte to secure a spot on the major league roster.
Almonte has posted a .293 batting average this season with 86 hits, 66 runs, 18 home runs, 66 RBIs, six stolen bases with a .951 OPS.
