Red Sox “Big 3” Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel are being promoted to Triple-A (Source)
Following Sunday’s 9-8 win for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, the Boston Red Sox are promoting the “Big 3” of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kyle Teel, per source (Alex Speier first to report). The trip have been coined as the future of the franchise, both by fans and the franchise itself, choosing to promote the three together.
Marcelo Mayer, the 21-year-old shortstop, has been in the organization since 2021 when he was drafted with the 4th overall pick in the MLB Draft. Referred to by many, including teammates, as the “leader of the group”. This season, Mayer is slashing .307/.370/.480 with eight home runs and 28 doubles.
Roman Anthony, the 20-year-old outfielder, reaches Triple-A in just his second full season of professional baseball. A meteoric rise in 2023 to become one of the game’s biggest prospects, he is ranked by soxprospects.com as the #1 prospect in the Red Sox organization. This season Anthony is slashing .269/.367/.489 with 15 home runs and 20 doubles.
Kyle Teel, the most recent of the big three to join the organization, was the Red Sox first round pick in the 2023 draft. So far this season, the catcher is slashing .298/.390/.462 with 11 home runs and 20 doubles. He will join Triple-A Worcester close to a year to the day that he made his Double-A debut.
Now Mayer, Anthony, and Teel are on the doorstep of the big leagues. Stand out performers of the entirety of the minor leagues in 2024, they will look to continue their success with the WooSox on the road next week.
