Red Sox bats continued to struggle on Wednesday against the Blue Jays
The Red Sox bats have been stale for a while now and it’s costing them games. Boston’s bats went quiet again against the Blue Jays, resulting in a 3-2 loss and the team falling further behind in the Wild Card race.
The Red Sox offense went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. They left 10 men on base including the bases loaded twice in both the seventh and eighth innings.
“We have struggled offensively for a while,” Cora said. “I know people talk about the pitching and defense, but offensively, we haven’t done much in a while. The swing and miss, chasing. You start looking at where we rank since June 27, it’s not pretty. It’s late August. It’s the same at-bats. As a group, we have to take pride in that. We’ve got to be better. We’ve got to make sure we swing at strikes.”

Franchy Cordero hit his sixth homer of the season in the loss. Cordero has now homered twice in the last three games.
The heart of the order that featured Alex Verdugo, Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez went 4-for-15 in the contest. The trio was a non-factor in driving in any runs in the loss.
“We’ve got to make sure we put the ball in play when it matters, and we haven’t done that in a while,” Cora said.
