Red Sox agree with 23 players on 2025 salaries; Cooper Criswell earns $1 million; all members of the 40-man roster have contracts
The Red Sox finalized contracts for 23 players ahead of the start of the 2025 season. All of these players are not yet eligible for arbitration.
Boston agreed to deals with Wilyer Abreu, Triston Casas, David Hamilton, Justin Slaten, Cooper Criswell, and Connor Wong, according to a team announcement on Friday morning. All 23 players were under contract for 2025, but their salaries hadn’t been finalized. Each player has anywhere between zero to three years of service time.
The major league minimum is being set at $760,000. The salaries are scaled up based on service time for each player.
Criswell received the largest salary, getting $1 million, the same salary as last season when he signed with the Red Sox as a free agent.
The right-hander will figure into the Red Sox pitching plans on and off this season, offering depth for the rotation if they need to skip someone’s start or a player misses time due to injury.
This spring hasn’t been kind to the tall righty; he’s made two appearances and one start, where he’s tossed 3 2/3 innings with a 9.82 ERA. He has given up four earned runs off six hits with two walks and one hit batter. In his start on March 6, Criswell was tagged for four earned runs off five innings. He only lasted 1 2/3 innings in his first start of the spring.
Gold Glove winner Abreu will earn $780,000, Casas gets $774,000, Hamilton $780,000, Slaten $760,000, and Wong $790,000.
Others that agreed to one-year deals were Brennan Bernardino, Richard Fitts, Romy Gonzalez, Vaughn Grissom, Luis Guerrero, Zack Kelly, Chris Murphy, Carlos Narváez, Zach Penrod, Quinn Priester, Blake Sabol, Nick Sogard, Greg Weissert, and Josh Winckowski.
Hunter Dobbins, Jhostynxon Garcia, and Luis Perales have not yet made their major league debuts. Dobbins is likely to make his big league debut this coming season; he is expected to pitch out of the WooSox rotation once the Triple-A schedule gets underway.
Boston can still work out extensions with any player that agreed to 2025 salaries, but nothing has indicated the Sox are close to a deal with anyone.
