Red Sox agree to one-year deals with two additional players, avoiding arbitration, no deal yet for Jarren Duran
With the deadline looming to come to terms on salaries for 2025 and avoid arbitration, the Red Sox have come to terms with two more players.
According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox have agreed to a one-year, $3.95 million deal with Tanner Houck. Fellow righty Kutter Crawford will earn $2.75 million next season, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
The Red Sox have not come to terms with All-Star MVP and outfielder Jarren Duran. Players and teams can continue to negotiate up until 8 p.m., when they’re required to file arbitration numbers with the commissioner’s office.
Duran was projected to earn $4.9 million, but no deal has been announced. He is under team control through 2028.
Boston also agreed to a one-year, $3.8 million deal with left-hander and ace Garrett Crochet; both sides are reportedly talking about an extension.
Houck was arbitration-eligible for the first time after a career season, earning $3.95 million, which comes in lower than his MLBTradeRumors projection of $4.5 million. The Red Sox still own three more years of control with Houck, who is coming off an All-Star season where he posted a 3.12 ERA and made a career-high 30 starts.
Crawford, who set career highs with 33 starts, 183 2/3 innings, 175 strikeouts, a 1.12 WHIP, and an opponent's batting average of .223. The righty will take home $2.75 million, a little under his MLBTR projection of $3.5 million. He is also under team control through 2028.
Even though Crawford set career highs in numerous categories, he also finished the season with 16 losses and led the league with giving up 34 homers. He showed progress as a starter last season but was also incredibly inconsistent last season. He had stretches where he was dominant and others where he was awful on the hill.
With the Red Sox agreeing to one-year deals with their arbitration players, it doesn’t prohibit them from working out an extension with Crochet, a clear favorite for a longer-term commitment from the Sox.
