Red Sox acquire Royals minor leaguer to complete Adalberto Mondesi trade
The Red Sox acquired minor league infielder Angel Pierre from the Royals on Sunday. The move completes the Adalberto Mondesi for Josh Taylor swap.
Pierre joined the Royals organization as an international free agent in 2022.
The 19-year-old’s hit .300/.424/.550 with two home runs, 19 RBIs, nine stolen bases, in 38 games while playing in the Dominican Summer League.
Mondesi has yet to make his Red Sox spring training debut. It’s looking as if the 27-year-old will report elsewhere to begin his rehab before joining the major league club.
Last season the former top prospect only played in 15 games for the Royals. The Calif. native has struggled to stay on the field playing on 358 games over seven seasons. He is rehabbing from ACL surgery.
Mondesi will make $3.405 million this season and is set to be a free agent after the season.
