Red Sox acquire INF/OF Hoy Park from the Pirates, added to 40-man roster
The Red Sox swung a trade on Wednesday acquiring Pirates infielder/outfielder Hoy Park. Boston sent left-handed pitching prospect Inmer Lobo to Pittsburgh. Park was also added to the Red Sox 40-man roster.
The 26-year-old left-handed hitter was designated for assignment by the Pirates earlier this week. Boston had shown interest in the past in Park and elected to trade for the minor-leaguer versus running the risk he would be claimed off waivers.
Red Sox sign left-handed reliever Joely Rodriguez to a one-year deal
This past season ParkĀ went 11-for-51 (.216 batting average) with two home runs, two doubles, seven runs, six RBIs and 15 strikeouts.
Park made his big league debut with the Yankees back in 2021. He was traded by the Yankees to the Pirates in the deal that sent reliever Clay Holmes to the Bronx.
The native of Seoul, South Korea, has versatility to play the infield and outfield. This past season with the Pirates, the 6-foot-1 utility man played 61 innings at second base, 39 innings at third base, 22 innings at shortstop, and 12 innings in right field. He also saw time in both center field and left field.
Park will turn 27 next April comes to the Red Sox with two minor-league options and should provide depth in both the infield and outfield at the Triple-A level.
