The Red Sox made one trade at the MLB trade deadline. Boston acquired infielder Luis Urías from the Brewers, the team confirmed.
The Brewers will receive right-handed pitching prospect Bradley Blalock in return, per Fansided’s Robert Murray.
Urías has struggled this season, batting .145 with two doubles, one homer, five RBI and .535 OPS. The 26-year-old has been dealing with a hamstring injury this season. He was sent to Triple-A back in June due to not being able to find his rhythm at the plate.
While with Nashville Urías has slashed .233/.345/.379/.725 in 29 games. Following the trade, he was optioned to Triple-A Worcester.
Urías can offer depth at three infield positions, he’s played second base, third base, and shortstop in his career.
The new Sox infielder has some pop in his bat, hitting 23 homers in 2021 and 16 last season.
Blalock was 6-1 with 2.19 ERA with 58 strikeouts and a 1.01 WHIP in 53 1/3 innings making 11 starts.
The right-hander is coming off having Tommy John surgery in 2022. He rehabbed 14 months before returning to the Sox system this year.
