Raiders name Antonio Pierce as their head coach
The Las Vegas Raiders have named Antonio Pierce as their head coach.
Pierce was the Raiders interim head coach after taking over for Josh McDaniels. The decsion was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Pierce’s hiring forced an immediate change of culture in Las Vegas. After each of their five wins during his nine games as interim head coach they broke out the victory cigars and players rallied around him.
“He (Pierce) embodies what it means to be a Raider and that mentality, that swag and all the things that he endorses is the things that I believe in,” star wide receiver Davante Adams said via Schefter on X.
Superstar edge rusher Maxx Crosby the other day hinted that he could look for a trade if Pierce was not named the permanet head coach.
“Nothing is off the table. I made it loud and clear I want to be a Raider for life, but if we start from scratch again I have to consider everything. At some point you have to do what is right for the fans, for the team, for the future.” Crosby said on his podcast (The Rush with Maxx Crosby).
Las Vegas will now look to turn their attention to naming a new general manager. Champ Kelly, who was the interim GM after the dismissal of Dave Ziegler, is a candidate. Kelly has been involved with their head coaching search per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
