Rafael Devers undergoes X-rays on right wrist
Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers was scratched from the lineup on Sunday, dealing with a sore right wrist.
Devers was drilled by a 91.3 mph fastball on his wrist in the eighth inning during Saturday’s win against the Dodgers.
The 26-year-old underwent X-rays on his right wrist, the results came back negative, according to Alex Cora. The hope is that Devers will be able to return to the Red Sox lineup on Monday to open a crucial three-game series against the Astros.
“That’s the plan,” Cora said. “We’ll see. We’ll see how he feels.”
Devers has been locked in at the plate since July 1, hitting .325 with a .983 OPS. Losing him for any extended period of time would be a massive blow to the Red Sox who are sitting 4.5 games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League.
Cora said that Devers was feeling better on Sunday and looks good enough to play.
“He showed up today, he went through the hitting drills and all that and he’s good to go,” Cora said.
