Q&A with Red Sox prospect Ceddanne Rafaela
Exclusive interview with Red Sox prospect Ceddanne Rafaela
Beyond the Monster was given access to interview the Boston Red Sox prospect, Ceddanne Rafaela. The highly touted prospect recently jumped into my Beyond the Monster’s Top 10 list.
Rafaela started the season with High-A Greenville before being promoted to Double-A Portland. On the year, he has 13 home runs, 46 RBI, and has 14 stolen bases with an average of .329 in 234 at-bats.
Below is the Q&A with Ceddanne Rafaela.
James: What is it like moving through the ranks with the Red Sox?
Rafaela: “My ride with the Red sox has been great. I love it here. From the staff, to the players, it is great. Everything is great here. Moving up the rankings I don’t really let it get to my head, I stay humble and play my game and give it my all every single time I step on the field regardless if it practice or the actual game. It is an awesome feeling of getting closer to your goal, it’s impossible to explain, it’s like your hard work is paying off, the hard work is not done, but you get a little boost along the way. It’s just awesome.”
James: You been on a tear this entire season, from Greenville to Portland, you’re seeing the ball great, wouldn’t you say?
Rafaela: “I made some adjustments l last year finishing the season. This year it’s still a work in progress. Everyday you learn something new that is one of the beauties about this game.”
James: Have you heard when you may move up to Triple-A?
Rafaela: “No, I haven’t heard anything and i don’t really think about it. I just play baseball and try to help my team win and enjoy the game.”
James: What is your overall goal, maybe not with Boston, but in general when it comes to baseball?
Rafaela: “Be the best version of myself on the field and off the field, be an great son, a great brother for my brother and sister a great friend and one of the most importantly thing be the best father for my son — I love that kid — and I try to be the best for my family. I’m trying to leave a legacy and also like any other player who gets signed as a free agent or get drafted the goal is to get to the big leagues and I am working hard everyday to get there and I will in the name of God.”
James: What is the support like from your family and friends?
Rafaela: “Man, where can I start it is awesome. I am so lucky to get that kind of support. I talk a lot with my family and they watch my games everyday they don’t miss a game. In Greenville when we was away and the game is not on tv they listen on the Radio for nine long innings or the day that there wasn’t neither radio or tv they read the game play by play. So, as you can see they really are a big part of my success and im so lucky to have my family’s support, that’s one of the things that keeps me going everyday. I am so lucky to come from Curacao, man, the support I get from my people back home I can never be thankful enough. So, that is why I try to be the best person because I also represent them. I even get the support from people from Aruba. As you can see I am really lucky guy who works hard. So, I am really grateful for everything and everyone that has been part of my journey.”
We want to thank Rafaela for taking time out of his busy schedule to give us this interview. We look forward to having him on the SoxSpects Podcast in the near future.
