When a team in baseball gives up four or more runs in the first inning of a baseball game the end result of that game probably won’t work in their favor.
The Salem Red Sox found that out on Thursday night.
High expectations were rolling in from fans and media alike to see the 13th ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization Luis Perales take the mound.
As quick as the fans seen him toe the rubber his outing was over.
Perales only worked 2/3 innings after allowing four runs on four hits while walking one and striking out two.
Salem used five pitchers out of the bullpen in game one. Sure, Salem’s skipper Liam Carroll wanted to use this year as a “development opportunity”, but surely he didn’t want to use all the resources in game one.
All pitchers used — except one — allowed runs to score.
Nate Landry did not allow a run over his 1.1 innings. He also had one strikeout.
Standout center fielder Miguel Bleis is as good as advertised. Patient at the plate. Quick on the bases. Alert in the field. Oh, and a cannon for an arm.
Bleis went 2-4 with two runs, two RBI, and a walk for Salem.
Cutter Coffey walked three times. Very patient at the plate. Also makes the pitcher work. He’s a hard out.
Allan Castro went 3-4 with two RBI.
Salem as a team went 7-34 at the plate on Thursday night.
Salem and Delmarva will meet again on Friday night with lefty Noah Dean getting the start for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
