The Salem Red Sox earned the 8-2 win over Fredericksburg thanks to powerful hitting and strong pitching on Wednesday night.
Juan Daniel Encarnacion got the start for Salem and only allow a run on six hits while striking out eight along the way to earn his third win of the season.
This is the second game where Encarnacion has struck out eight. He did so the first time on May 13 against Delmarva. In that game he worked six innings, allowing a run on two hits.
Encarnacion now has 42 strikeouts through 35.1 innings in eight games played for the club.
The pitching staff tallied for a total of 14 strikeouts on the evening.
And there’s no sike about it that Phillip Sikes had a big night for Salem. He went three-for-four with three runs scored, two home runs and four RBI on the evening. Both home runs were solo shots, and it was his second and third jacks of the year.
Both of his homers came in the fourth and sixth innings.
Sikes would tack on more production for Salem in the seventh when he recorded his seventh double of the year, scoring two more runs.
Salem looks to continue their hot streak against Fredericksburg on Thursday night with the series closing out on Sunday afternoon.
