Patriots to sign tight end Mike Geisicki
The Patriots made a splash in NFL Free Agency on Friday by adding tight end Mike Geisicki on a one-year deal.
Gesicki has agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $9 million.
Last season, the former Dolphins tight end played in every game in Mike McDaniel’s offense. He had 73 catches for 780 yards to 32 catches for 362 yards last season.
The 27-year-old replaces Jonnu Smith who was traded to the Falcons on Monday. He will join Hunter Henry on the tight end depth chart.
Geisicki is a red-zone threat, which is something the Patriots need in 2023. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick talked how productive his new tight end was back in December.
“He’s a hard guy to cover,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said about Gesicki back in December. “Long. He’s a good, crafty route runner. He’s slick, but he can get down the field. Very good hands, makes some acrobatic catches. Has enough quickness to separate. That’s another hard guy to cover on third down, well on any down. But when you talk about those possession downs, he’s effective.”
The Patriots are expected to make more moves following the Geisicki signing. Former Patriots quarterback and 98.5 The Sports Hub radio co-host Scott Zolak suggested that on his show "Zolak & Bertrand."
"I was told today, this is the first domino to fall, that there's more to come," Zolak said. "So, I think this is where they're starting to make their moves."
