Patriots to re-sign linebacker Josh Uche (report)
The New England Patriots have agreed to a one-year contract with linebacker Josh Uche, per Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. Garafolo adds that Uche had much more on the table elsewhere but wanted to remain with the Patriots.
Albert Breer of MMQB has the one-year deal to be worth $3 million, with incentives that could the contract up to $8 million.
The 2020 second-round pick out of Michigan had a down season in 2023. Uche managed only to rack up three sacks and 15 tackles in 15 games. That was after what looked to be a breakout year in 2022 where he had 11.5 sacks and 27 tackles.
“He’d be a coach I want to play for. I’d run through a wall for him. I love players’ coaches..., I’m all in on Mayo.” Uche told Mark Daniels of MassLive prior to the news Tuesday.
The 25-year old now joins a group of returning Patriots this offseason. New England has made it a priority to bring back many of their own free agents in the first two days of free agency.
They have agreed to re-sign tight end Hunter Henry, wide receivers Kendrick Bourne and Jalen Reagor, and Mike Onwenu.
