Patriots sign wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Robinson
The Patriots made a splash on Wednesday signing former Steelers and Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to a three-year, $33 million deal, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Smith-Schuster's new contract has a base value of $25.5 million and includes $16 million in guaranteed money, per NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.
The addition of Smith-Schuster comes on the heels of losing Jakobi Meyers to the Raiders. Meyers agreed to a three-year, $33 million deal on Tuesday.
Last season, the 26-year-old Smith-Schuster played with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. In 16 regular-season games, the wide receiver generated 78 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns.
The addition of Smith-Schuster gives quarterback Mac Jones a reliable target. He will join DeVante Parker, Tyquan Thornton and Kendrick Bourne on the depth chart.
James Robinson added to the running backs group
The Patriots also added running back James Robinson on a two-year deal, in which he can earn a maximum of $8 million, per multiple outlets.
The 24-year-old became an unrestricted free agent after the Jets decided to not tender him a contract following the 2023 season.
Robinson had 110 carries for 425 yards and three touchdowns with Jaguars and Jets in 11 games last season.
The 5-foot-9, 219 pound running back will be added to the depth chart alongside Rhamondre Stevenson, Ty Montgomery, Pierre Strong, and Kevin Harris.
The addition of Robinson will likely rule out the return of Damien Harris. He is a free agent this offseason after his rookie deal came to an end.
Patriots add veteran offensive lineman
The Patriots are expected to sign former Chicago Bears offensive tackle Riley Reiff, per Diana Russini of ESPN.
The 34-year-old veteran lineman gets a one-year, $5 million deal, $4.15 million is guaranteed.
He’s started 149 of the 163 games in his career. He started 10 games for the Bears last year. Over the course of his career he’s also played for the Lions, Vikings and Bengals.
The addition of Reiff adds depth to the Patriots offensive line. New England also added tackle Calvin Anderson as a free agent and tendered tackle Yodny Cajuste a contract.
