Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers arrested, reportedly facing strangulation and drug charges
Patriots starting safety and team captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested on Saturday in Braintree and faces multiple charges, according to police. The news was first reported by Boston 25.
The news of Peppers arrest broke early Monday morning, and the 29-year-old is reportedly facing charges of assault, strangulation, and drug possession following an altercation. He is set to appear in court on Monday.
According to multiple reports, the police responded to a call at a residential address about an altercation between two people. After the police conducted an investigation, Peppers was arrested and will reportedly be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a “Class B” substance.
“We are aware of the incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comments at this time,” the Patriots released in a statement.
Shortly after the news broke, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was asked about the Peppers situation while on his regular appearance on WEEI’s "The Greg Hill Show."
“He called me that morning. I knew what was going on. We’ve informed the NFL what was going on, and we’re still gathering information,” Mayo said.
Mayo was also asked whether or not Peppers was still a member of the Patriots organization. “Yeah, I mean, I don’t think anyone knows the facts or anything like that,” Mayo said. “It’s a process.”
Peppers wasn’t on the field during the loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. The safety was downgraded to “out” due to a shoulder injury.
The veteran safety signed with the Patriots in 2022 and received a three-year, $24 million extension by the team.
