Patriots release cornerback J.C. Jackson (report)
The New England Patriots have released cornerback J.C. Jackson. The move saves more than $14 million in cap space.
This move comes to no surprise as his trade back to New England did not end up working out last season. The Patriots will now have over $100 million in cap space to spend in free agency.
Last October, Jackson got traded back to the Patriots for a 7th round pick.
Jackson continued to underperform and have off-field issues. The 28-year old reportedly missed bed checks at the hotel and was suspended for the week 10 game against the Indianapolis Colts in Germany.
Jackson signed with the Chargers for five year worth $82.5 million in March of 2022. His tenure there lasted just one full season before coming back to Foxboro.
The cornerback has managed only one interception over the past two seasons. That is not the type of production that Los Angeles was expecting when he joined them as a free agent.
New England now has a cornerback room that is lead by first round hopeful Christian Gonzalez. The second-year corner continues to recover from a dislocated shoulder.
