Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer expected to be released
Long time New England Patriot will be cut
The new league year is right around the corner.
As March 15th approaches, reports will start to come out about players getting released. Per Adam Caplan of the SiriusXM NFL the New England Patriots will be releasing quarterback Brian Hoyer. This move leaves the Patriots with only two quarterbacks on their roster entering free agency and the NFL Draft.
The 37-year-old veteran has been in the NFL for 14 seasons and has had three different stints with the Patriots dating back to 2009 totaling eight seasons.
The 6-foot-2 righty only started in two games over those eight seasons but has provided great knowledge and veteran presence the last three years on the sidelines acting as a borderline player-coach.
When Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the first quarterback the Patriots brought in was Hoyer.
The veteran Hoyer has been able to provide knowledge of the playbook since 2020 for Cam Newton and Mac Jones.

Overall, in his career Hoyer has thrown for 10,668 yards with 53-35 TD-INT. He has appeared in 76 games and started in 40 of them.
As he approaching 38 next season, Hoyer could decide to retire or try to latch on with another team as a backup.
Another possibility is that the Patriots bring Hoyer back in an advisory type role if he is interested in staying in the game after retirement or he pursues a coaching job with another organization.
