Patriots hire a new special teams coordinator
Cross one name off the list of coordinators to fill the vacant positions on Jerod Mayo’s staff. The New England Patriots have hired Jeremy Springer as their new special teams coordinator, per Ian Rapaport of NFL Network. Springer was an assistant special teams coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams.
Springer joined the Rams for in 2022 under head coach Sean McVay. He was a special teams coordinator for the University of Arizona from 2018-20 and then he went to an assistant coach at Marshall University. After one season there, he made the leap to the NFL.
Under the 34-year old Springer, Rams kicker was great in 2022, but did take a dip in his second season with Los Angeles.
The kicker made only 80.5% of his field goal attempts the past season which was down from 93.3% in 2022.
Their new punter, Ethan Evans averaged 49.2 yards per punt which was 9th in the NFL.
New England has one more coordinator spot to fill which is their offensive coordinator. They have had second interviews with Rams Nick Caley and Bears Luke Getsy.

Patriots to promote Demarcus Covington as next defensive coordinator
New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo has made his first major step forward in filling out his staff. Defensive line coach Demarcus Covington will be promoted to defensive coordinator. The move was first reported by Albert Breer of MMQB. This is the first time since 2017 the Patriots have named a defensive coordinator.
